Catena 4802

RS-485/Sensor node with Qwiic connector

How to Buy

Pricing starts at $49/unit.

The MCCI Catena® 4802 RS-485/Sensor Node for LoRaWAN® technology networks is a complete open-source single-board IoT device that can monitor and control remote Modbus, M-Bus and other industrial devices, while also monitoring temperature and humidity with an integrated Sensirion SHT31 sensor. It also incorporates a JST 4-pin connector for easy connection of external I2C devices following the Sparkfun Qwiic system.

Based on the Murata CMWX1ZZABZ-078, the Catena 4802 is a great platform for RS-485/Modbus based LoRaWAN investigation and deployment. It works well with The Things Network, or any LoRaWAN 1.0 or 1.1 network in the 865 to 923 MHz range.

As a Modbus controller, the Catena 4802 can control a large number of Modbus devices and communicate results via the LoRaWAN network, limited only by system memory and polling rate. As a Modbus device, the Catena 4802 can bridge an existing Modbus controller to the LoRaWAN network.

The standard model includes a U.FL connector. Flexible U.FL whip antennas are included in region-specific models. Other variants are available on request.

Software and hardware are open source. Schematics and designs for the 4802 can be found on GitHub. Sofware can be found on GitHub in the github.com/mcci-catena project.

Software development requires an ST-LINK/V2 or equivalent, plus an USB to serial adapter. MCCI’s Catena Development Starter Kit includes everything needed.
